When Lex turns on his laptop for a little solitaire, he finds something impossible in his outbox.

Despite the fact Lex didn't use it very often, he kept his laptop fully charged. It usually just sat in it's case in the hut, waiting for the occasional time he'd get it out to write or let Anatoly mess with the default chess game. Today, he felt like playing a bit of solitaire for mindless entertainment. He bent down and was scratching Aeneas behind the ears as the computer booted up, automatically putting in his password without even looking. The laptop made the normal booting up sounds...plus one extra. With a confused frown, Lex looked up at the screen and cocked his head. "Huh...That's...impossibly odd."

Anatoly had been sprawled on the bed, attempting to make some headway through the book he was reading. It was, to be honest, not all that interesting, but faced between slogging through it or the jukebox, he had resolved to keep trying. At Lex's exclamation, he looked up. "What is?"

Lex glanced over at Anatoly, then back at the laptop, almost hoping that the screen would change. It didn't. "It appears...that I have e-mail. Which is impossible considering the lack of an internet on the island." He hesitated for a moment...before clicking on the icon, pulling up the e-mail program. "Okay, this is even stranger. It's saying that I sent it..."

Even after having the concepts of e-mail and internet explained to him, he wasn't entirely sure he understood. Still, he could at least tell that this was all out of the ordinary and he frowned, setting the book down. "You sent it? But how? What is it saying you sent?"

Shaking his head, Lex looked over at Anatoly. "I...have no idea. Absolutely no idea." He frowned as he looked back and read the subject line. "It appears to be test results. Let 's see." He clicked it and his eyes went wide when the e-mail opened. "Oh fuck..."

Alarmed, Anatoly got up from the bed and went over to kneel beside him. "What?"

Lex scrolled through the document for a few moments before he answered, wanting to be sure. "This...it's the report of a cloning expirement. It says that..." He looked at Anatoly and licked his lips for a moment as he tried to find the words. "Remember how I told you that Kon admitted to me that he was a clone of that quack Superman? He said that there was human DNA used too. Apparently...the human DNA was mine."

Anatoly stared at Lex in shock. "What? Yours? But how is that possible?" The whole thing was almost too incredible to believe and seemed entirely unlike the man he knew and loved so well.

"I...I have no idea." Lex said, unable to contain his shock as well. "I've never done cloning experiments...but then this could be from the future." His tone turned slightly bitter, since the future self everyone insisted he was wasn 't exactly a pillar of virtue. But he shook his head. "As odd as this is...it doesn't explain how it's on my computer...and who would I send this too?"

"The island being cruel again?" Anatoly suggested darkly. "Perhaps it's only a trick and it's not true at all. You know how it loves to do such things, particularly to us."

"Well...there's only one way to find out." Lex put the laptop to sleep with a touch of a button and moved to stand up. "I think I need to go have a talk with Kon."

Anatoly nodded, standing with him. "Do you want me to come with you," he asked, reaching for Lex's hand and holding it against his heart.

As tempted as Lex was to say yes to the offer, he shook his head. "No, I think it would be best if I did this alone." He squeezed Anatoly's hand and brought it up to kiss the back of it. "But thank you Tolya."
