Just as Anatoly and Lex are set to leave for a day of leisure in Metropolis, a black van full of gunmen ruin their plans. Anatoly is kidnapped and Lex is shot while trying to prevent it.
It was late morning by the time Lex and Anatoly managed to be ready to set off for Metropolis.
They had planned on getting an early start, Lex wanting to get to the city as soon as possible to show Anatoly around and to visit a proper tailor so the Russian would have a well fitting suit for once, even if it was just for the night. Of course, once he'd shown Anatoly his favorite car, an older style Porsche in a dark silvery purple, an almost cousin to the one he'd driven off the bridge on his first day in Smallville, they'd been delayed. Lex had had the need to see his beautiful Russian against the beautiful car and they'd ended up soiling it that same way as they had the pool table the night before after Clark's visit.
So instead, Lex had brought his red Mustang convertible out from his expansive garage, and as he stood in the courtyard marveling at it he realized it was the better choice. Red was Anatoly's color after all and the convertible would allow the wind to play in those treasured curls. And the engine and transmission were to die for. Lex had really, really missed his cars.
Anatoly couldn't understand the appeal of having so many cars himself, however he fully appreciated that Lex did. Truly, any of the cars would have been fine but after seeing how excited the younger man was, he kept that thought to himself. Instead, he slung an arm around Lex's waist and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Are we ready, do you think?"
Playfully spinning the keys around his finger, Lex turned into the arm around his waist and gave Anatoly an excited, proper kiss. "I think we are. We better go before we find another distraction." He wiggled an eyebrow suggestively before pulling away from Anatoly to walk towards the driver's side of the car to get inside and get going.
The moment Lex's hand touched the door handle of the convertible, a black van crashed through the mansion gates. It squealed to a spinning halt in front of them and the side door slid open to reveal two gunmen who immediately opened fire. Lex, who was on the far side of the car from the van, ducked down on instinct, since this wasn't his first fire fight. "Get down!" He called in Russian to Anatoly as his mind raced on who these people could be and how to get Anatoly out of there. This was not how he'd wanted the visit to Smallville to go...but then it wouldn't be Smallville without peril.
Anatoly fell to the ground with a cry, covering his head with his hands. He knew he had to move and get out of the way of the bullets but he was rooted to the ground, completely and utterly petrified.
Lex moved towards the front of the car, so hopefully he could get to Anatoly and pull him around so he wasn't out in the open anymore. But just as he rounded the hood in a crouch, he saw two more men duck out from behind the gunmen, grab Anatoly by the arms and pull him up towards the van. Instead of thinking, Lex just reacted, standing up despite the gun fire and took a few running steps towards them. "Anatoly!"
Anatoly struggled as hard as he could to free himself but the grip on his arms was too tight and he couldn't keep from being dragged into the van. Another shot rang out and Anatoly watched, horrified, as he saw Lex stumble and clutch his shoulder in obvious pain. He tried to scream but a gloved hand covered his mouth and the last sight he saw before the door was rolled shut was his Lex on the ground, covered in blood.
